A downloadable fan translation

This is a fan translation of the horror mystery VN Bloodstained Flowers, also known as Chizome no Hana. The VN was made by Kanna. This translation works for the free version of the 2022 remake.

This is a translated description of the VN from NovelGame:

In the middle of summer vacation...

Sakura and her friends, members of the Mystery Investigation Club, go to the Utsugi Mansion, deep in a forest.

Ten years ago, there was a forced family suicide. Sakura and her friends discover that the owner of the Utsugi Mansion, Masaki Utsugi, researched a special flower before perishing in the family suicide.

The petals of the flowers are toxic, and those who are poisoned by them will develop red bruises all over their bodies, eventually leading to death. This toxin is also transmitted by blood.

~~~The curtain rises once more on the Utsugi Mansion~~~
Some other information about the VN:
  • The main story takes around 8-10 hours to finish. Side Story 1 takes about 20-30 minutes to complete, while Side Story 2 takes about 1-2 hours.
  • There is a lot of mystery in this VN, which you are encouraged to try solving yourself. Avoid spoilers. I've made sure that my screenshots are sufficiently out-of-context to not provide any spoilers. If you also want to avoid any spoilers given by the creator, even minor ones, get your free copy of the VN from NovelGame. You should also avoid looking at other works made by the creator until you've finished either the Another End or True End.
  • Full voice, including the protagonist.
  • This VN features a female protagonist, though it switches perspective to other characters for brief periods.
  • There are light elements of Boys' Love. Specifically, there is:
    • A low-res on-screen kiss scene between two male characters.
    • An off-screen kiss scene.
    • A sizable focus on the romantic attraction of one of the male characters towards another.
  • I don't know the exact count, but there are definitely over 100 high quality CGs in this VN. I'm counting all of a CG's variations as 1 CG.
  • Every choice either results in the story progressing or a very swift End. Most of the Ends provide small hints about the mystery suitable for that point in the story, so I recommend checking them out as you read.
  • When you clear the True End, make a hard save if you want easy access to the Side Stories. You can't access them from the startup menu.
Some notes regarding my particular translation:
  • I've made the window size bigger because the text is way too small to read otherwise. I've made an alternative patch if you'd prefer to use the original resolution.
  • I've included the Japanese honorifics and Japanese name order for spoken dialogue only. Introspection uses Western honorifics and Western name order.
  • I have included the meaning of a character's name above their actual name in spoken dialogue for most of the cast, leaving out a few very minor characters near the end. The characters discuss these meanings at a few points in the VN, so I have included these meanings so that you can have context for those conversations.
  • I have restored an ending that was cut in the free version. This cut ending has all of its assets present in the free version, except a CG it uses is very low resolution. I scripted the VN to use this CG as a character sprite for that ending to make sense.
  • The ending slides keep the original text, and the translated text is below it.
  • Opening and ending videos are untouched.
Install instructions
This is a TyranoBuilder VN that uses app.asar, so you need xDelta to apply the patch. These instructions work for either xDelta patch, though the origRes one keeps the original resolution.
  1. The most hassle-free way to get xDelta is to grab it for free here, and use xdeltaUI: https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/598/
  2. This patch works for the free version of Bloodstained Flowers. You can get a copy from these locations:
  3. Extract the VN from the zip archive, and enter the resources folder.
  4. Inside resources is app.asar. Launch xDelta, and set this app.asar as the original file. Note that xDelta will only successfully patch the original app.asar - attempting to patch a modified app.asar will not work properly.
  5. Inform xDelta of the location of the xDelta patch file I supplied. Finally, decide on a file path and name for the output file in xDelta. Then click the Patch button.
  6. Replace app.asar in resources with the patched app.asar.
  7. Play.
thanks but how can I change backgroun music volume it's so loud?
(1 edit)
I don't think you can do it through the VN. However, you should be able to lower the volume on Win10 by doing Speakers -> Volume Mixer -> Bloodstained Flowers (VN needs to be open) -> Adjust the volume.
Note that this is for you alone, though. If you're planning on streaming it somewhere, you'll have to edit the volume in editing yourself.
this is my first time using any romhacker so I’m having trouble installing. could anyone help specify the 5th direction? I already set the original file, I don’t know what to set for the modified file/patch destination or source file.
Original/Source File: The app.asar provided in your download of the VN.
Patch: The xDelta file I provided.
Destination File: The location of the new file that will be created.
Think of it like this: The VN creator gave you the original file. I gave you the file that can tell xDelta how to turn the original file into the translated file. You must inform xDelta what these two files are, so that it can build the translated file.
thanks, I think I just need help with replacing the file. I created the patch and when I replaced it, the game doesn't open.
The result file should be about 663,239 KB big.
The original file should be a file said to be modified on 2/21/2022 10:37 AM (UTC -6) with an approximate size of 661,963 KB.
I double checked the download provided by Freem just now, and that should have the original app.asar file you want.
The result file absolutely must be named app.asar and be placed inside that resources folder, where the original app.asar used to be.
If that doesn't work, are you able to provide more details on which part doesn't match up?
Thank you, works like a charm; Gonna play it soon | He who is brave is free.
Have you decided on your next project?
I'm thinking of either 残余の羊 or しにいそぐぼくら . Not sure yet, though it will probably be the cream one.
Thank you for translation!
Can I somehow change speed of the text? I can`t find game setting, I can`t even open it on full screen (only in window). It`s hard to play like this, text speed is very slow. But game looks really good, so I want to play it.
There's a bit of a hacky way to do it, though this should do the job:
  1. Acquire a method to unpack an asar file:
    1.  The 7zip plugin to open asar files can unpack specific portions of interest: https://www.tc4shell.com/en/7zip/asar/
    2. Alternatively, you can try to unpack it by using the node.js asar package.
  2. The file of interest is {asarRootFolder}/data/system/Config.tjs
  3. Text speed is the value "chSpeed". 30 is the default. Lower values mean faster speed.
  4. Overwrite the Config.tjs in the patched app.asar, and you should be good to go.
  5. Full screen is tougher. If you try to force fullscreen you're going to get black bars on the sides of the screen.
  6. If you want to resize the window on startup to something custom, you can open up the file {asarRootFolder}/data/scenario/first.ks, edit the line that has window.ResizeTo() that does NOT have a semicolon at the start of the line to your preferred resolution, and repack that into the asar file. Take note that the resolutions used by resizeTo are inaccurate, so that's why I used the original width and height to set the desired resolution.
Thank you so much for fast answer! I`ll try to do it sometime later, when I have time to play the game :)
(+1)
Thank you so much for translating this game, it must have taken a while.
I loved it, it was truly captivating. I'm impressed that it's a free game despite being voiced and such.
The ending is satisfying, nothing is left unanswered.
I'm just a little frustrated that I can't play the other games because I don't speak Japanese aha (maybe one day), but thanks again for introducing us to this game ! :)
I hope a lot of people will play it because it's a really good horror/thriller VN.
Don't mean to sound ungrateful, but sprites don't look very good with new size screen. Are there some troubles with just changing font size?
(1 edit)
Yeah, the font is too tiny, and I want to make good use of the extra space.
Also, you can drag the edge of the window if you need to make it smaller. I did that at first so I could read the text until I found out how to change the resolution on startup.
I've also gone ahead and made a quick alternative patch that features the original resolution, if that's preferable.
Looks great!
